7 Elite Academy has appointed experienced youth coaching expert David Mayer as the organisation's Global Head of Foundation.

Mayer brings a vast knowledge of soccer within the Foundation Age phase (under-9 to under-12), having worked with some of the sport's top development coaches.

He will be based at the 7EA offices in Liverpool, UK and oversee Foundation Age programmes for the Academy across the world.

Anthony Godfrey, Global Technical Director at 7 Elite Academy, said: “I am hugely excited to bring someone of David's calibre on board. He has a great passion and attention to detail for developing young people at the early stages of their soccer career.

“Getting the Foundation Age phase right is absolutely critical to how a youngster develops within the game, both during their time with 7 Elite Academy and later on as they move onto college soccer and hopefully the professional game.

“David has helped to develop some of the best young players in the world, and had great soccer playing experience in the U.S and the youth Premier League system. He was also an assistant coach for National Champions Pfeiffer University in the United States.

“We want to ensure that every player who starts their career with us has consistent and regular opportunities to develop. David's presence here at 7EA is a key building block in that process.”

David holds a UEFA B License and is currently working on his UEFA A Licence. He has completed multiple English FA Youth Modules and worked with leading youth coaches including Paul McGuinness, Neil Bailey and Andy Smith.

Wayne Scholes, Chief Executive at 7 Elite Academy, said: “We want 7 Elite Academy to be a beacon for outstanding youth soccer development all over the world and David will help us to achieve that aim.

“We already a fantastic line-up of coaching staff, both in the United States and in the UK, and David will be a pivotal member of the team at the Foundation Age phase globally.

“His experience is second to none and he will help us to develop a new standard of coaching for players at the crucial under-9 to under-12 stage of development.

“He will continue to be based out of our Liverpool offices, but will oversee our Foundation Age phase programs in every country. This is a very exciting time for everyone here at 7 Elite Academy.”
