7 Elite Academy Head of Goalkeeping Chris Owens has hailed the “brilliant” standards on show from players in the United States.

Owens, who joined 7 Elite Academy in his current role last year, works with goalkeeping coaches across the world, developing a curriculum for youngsters.

He is also the LFC Women’s Under-21s Goalkeeper Coach, LFC Boys Academy Goalkeeper coach also works with other youngsters in sport and education.

Chris held a successful masterclass alongside other English Premier League coaches with 7 Elite Academy players in Utah in 2019.

He is due to return when Covid-19 restrictions allow, but that first visit illustrated the potential of young goalkeepers in Salt Lake City and Saint George.

Owens said: “I was made up when I went over there to deliver some sessions to the goakeepers, because the standards were brilliant.

“The boys and girls were really athletic, engaged and they all really want to learn when you’re giving them coaching points.

“As a coach, you love to have players who want to soak up your information. It really stood out to me the desire from these youngsters to take on the advice.

“In training sessions, the effort levels were so high and some of the saves these goalkeepers were making were great.

“It was a great experience, because not only was it fantastic to see Utah but to work with all these players, with the standard they’re at, was great as a coach.”
