Former Liverpool and England defender Stephen Warnock will cast his eye over some of the finest youth soccer prospects at the 7 Elite Academy International Tournament next month.

The popular event, which takes place in Southern Utah and Nevada on February 2-4, has attracted another record attendance of teams from across the United States.

Organisers closed registrations this week after a post-Christmas rush, although the Pre-Academy Jamboree for players in 2015-2018 age brackets is still accepting entries.

Warnock, who is a Global Ambassador for 7 Elite Academy, is expecting to see the cream of youth soccer talent throughout the three-day event.

He said: “This year we have seen the USA make a big impact on the international stage and I believe there is an exceptional pathway of talent that professional clubs in the UK can tap into.

“That pathway is what I will be keeping an eye out for at the 7 Elite Academy Tournament next month. There are so many clubs from across the USA that will be showcasing their most talented players.

“Players can make a big impression at all stages of their development. That is why I want to watch as many matches as possible and help identify the potential of these youngsters.

“It is clear that with the right guidance and coaching the USA has a bright future, both in international soccer and amongst the world’s biggest professional leagues.”

Thousands of players will take part in the competition, which has developed into one of the youth soccer events of year since it launched in 2018.

The tournament will include penalty shootouts after each group game - a feature that is now employed at similar events across the world.

There will also be top-class officials from the UK and USA taking charge of games, while organisers will be looking to provide food and entertainment for families.

Nick Nield, Tournament Director, added: “This year’s tournament has been a big success without a ball even being kicked. The teamwork from our staff and volunteers in organising all aspects has been exceptional.

“The fact that we have been running this tournament for over five years means teams are now willing to travel even further to Utah and Nevada to take part in high quality soccer games.

“That will raise the standard of competition in all age groups and give every single player the opportunity to experience a truly memorable youth soccer event.

“Another record attendance means there will be more demand than ever for high quality food and entertainment. We are working closely with city authorities to make sure everyone is catered for.”
